Should you replace the throttle body gasket?

If you remove the throttle body, yes. The old logic is that if the gasket looks dry, it can be reused. Once a gasket has been compressed for years, it stays compressed. Reusing it means putting a worn seal back into a close-tolerance assembly.

Use the gasket made for that throttle body. If the original is metal or composite, do not add a layer of RTV unless the manual specifies it. Clean the sealing surfaces with a plastic scraper, not a wire wheel. Throttle body bolts do not need a lot of torque; most cases of damage are from overtightening. A gasket is not where you save four dollars, because the second labor charge is the expensive part.

How to remove CV axle from the transmission

This is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. The general sequence that I see in OEM service data goes like this:

  1. Remove the cotter pin or lock, then loosen the center axle nut while the wheel is still on the ground.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support it on stands; remove the wheel.
  3. If the brake caliper blocks access, remove it and support it with a hanger. Do not let it hang by the brake hose.
  4. Separate the lower ball joint or strut pinch bolt so the knuckle can swing outward. Push the hub out to free the outer CV shaft from the wheel bearing.
  5. Support the inner CV joint and use a pry bar between the joint housing and the transmission case. Pry outward until the snap ring releases.
  6. Catch the fluid that comes out. The axle seal is open, and some oil may drain.

Do not let the axle hang by the inner boot after it pops free. A boot can tear just from the weight of the shaft. If the seal lip is hard or cracked, replace it before reinstalling. That may feel like extra work, but it beats doing the whole job again in a month.
