These are the questions I get when a customer lands on the ntn website or opens the ntn store for the first time. I am not the marketing voice behind this page. I am one of the engineers who reviews automotive metal-component orders, and I have been doing it since 2017. In that time I have approved parts that worked and approved parts that came back in a rejection report. This FAQ is the checklist I use now, written in the form I wish someone had given me before my third expensive mistake.

The honest answer is that the entry point matters less than the information you bring with you. The ntn website is where technical details and inquiry paths live. The ntn store is where people expect a shopping cart. For a custom automotive stamping, stamping die, CNC machined component, forging, or aluminum extrusion, a shopping cart does not replace an engineering review. The store may show a stock item; the website can point you to the right contact for a drawing-based quote. I have made the mistake of treating an online catalog number as if it contained every revision. It did not (surprise, surprise).
To be fair, the online path is convenient. It is also static. If your part has a drawing, send the drawing. If you only send the part number, we have to check the revision. If you send the old drawing and the current part, we will notice differences. The check is boring. It is also cheaper than a correction after the die has been cut, which is exactly how I learned the lesson.
Are n20 timing chain replacement parts available through ntn?
When someone searches for n20 timing chain replacement, they usually want a complete service kit or a repair procedure. I do not give repair instructions. What I can tell you is where ntn components fit into that job. The N20 chain path is controlled by guide rails, tensioner bodies, and brackets, several of which can be stamped steel or CNC machined from aluminum. Those parts may look simple. They are not. The flatness and the hole-to-hole relationship determine how much the chain can move under load.
I remember a timing-chain bracket that I approved after checking only the outer profile. It looked fine on my screen. When the sample arrived, the mounting flange angle was wrong because I had not checked the bend line against the original part. The result was a rejected sample, a one-week delay, and a new rule: every replacement component gets compared to the original part, not just the CAD model. Depending on the exact stage, the housing, rotors, cover, and relief valve may be machined from cast, forged, or billet material. Those parts are not thin stamped sheet metal, and I would not trust any supplier who says they can stamp an oil pump housing into an LT1 performance part.
That said, ntn does produce CNC machined components and forged or extruded aluminum parts. If you are working on an oil pump project, we can review the part if you send a valid drawing and define the operating requirement. Do not write 'make it like Katech.' That tells me nothing useful and will produce a quote nobody can engineer. This is one area where honesty is the important part of the quote. I would rather tell you a stamped solution is wrong than take the order and watch it fail. I have made the mistake of not saying that clearly enough in 2019, and it ended with a $4,800 scrap pile.
How often do you need to change your air filter?
This is not usually a metal-parts question, but it lands on our site often enough that I will answer it from the component side. The exact interval belongs in your vehicle owner's manual. In normal conditions, a replacement engine air filter is often checked at scheduled maintenance and changed when it looks loaded. If you drive on gravel or construction dust, inspect it more often; at every oil change is a reasonable habit.
Now the reason I care about it: an air filter is only as good as the housing that seals it. On many vehicles, the housing tray or duct flange is a stamped metal part. If that flange has been bent by rough prying or an overtightened clamp, unfiltered air can bypass the filter even when the filter is brand new. The answer to 'how often do you need to change your air filter' becomes: change it as the manual says, but also look at the metal sealing flange when you do it. From the outside, an automotive stamping supplier seems to want every part to be a stamping. The reality is different. Stamping is excellent for brackets, mounting plates, shields, and many body and chassis components. Forcing a high-fatigue part into a stamping because it is cheaper per piece is how recalls begin. In my opinion, the material process should follow the load case and volume, not the vendor's press list.
When I compare a low-load bracket with a suspension arm side by side, I can finally explain why one is stamped and the other is forged. The low-load bracket can be formed from sheet steel. The suspension arm has to survive repeated high loads and impacts; a simple stamping cannot match the grain flow of a forging. At ntn, the processes are stamping, CNC machining, forging, and aluminum extrusion. We will recommend the least expensive one that works, and the least expensive one that works is not always a stamping. If your part should be forged, I will say so.
What causes the most bad surprises on part inquiries?
Missing context. I can quote a stamped bracket from a drawing. I cannot quote engineering judgment from a vague description. For example, if you ask about a timing chain tensioner bracket for an N20 engine without telling me it is an N20, I might accidentally compare it to another engine family. If you ask for an oil pump cover and mention the oil pressure goal, I can steer you toward a machined design or a forging. If you just say 'make this part,' you get a price, but you may not discover that a tolerance intended for CNC is too tight for a raw stamping.
Use the ntn website contact form as if you are explaining the part to a new engineer in your own company. Include the drawing, material spec, annual volume, and the function it performs. The more honest that information is, the more useful my answer will be. You will get a straight answer in return, including the words 'this should not be a stamping' when those words are true.
